Recently I have not had the time to focus on my art practice. I now have an extra day in the week to focus on my art. I am now able to put more time into creating artwork whilst earning a regular income from something that I also love which is working with the community and helping others.
It is an important time for me to reflect on my practice. Why do I do it? Where is it going? And what do I want to achieve?
Putting ideas down on paper I worked out:
- My purpose as an artist. The purpose of me creating artwork is to express myself and to use my imagination to be creative. As an artist I resolve and explore ideas or issues I need to work through. It is my passion and I get enjoyment from my artwork having a connection with the viewer.
- My direction. I want to create positive artwork which influence and inspires myself and the viewer. I want it to be colourful, involving paint. Using my knowledge from uni, I want to develop a solid portfolio of work. I would like to use ideas and reflection of life in my artwork.
- My desires as an artist. I desire to be happy with what I create, I would like it to be purposeful and meaningful. I want to use and share my creative talents. I would like to feel confident with my work and for it to sell.
It was a good exercise to do and I will reflect on it in the next coming months.
