New Bondi Beach design

Daily Inspiration, Design

My husband and I have lived in Sydney for nearly 3 and a half years now.

Bondi Beach is iconic.

I thought up all the strong characteristics that make up Bondi and started to sketch them. The the ice cream van, the skate park, the Pavilion, the beach, swim between the flags and others. I scanned the drawings into my laptop and worked on them using Adobe Illustrator. I like how the illustrations connect together and give a sense of place.

You can now buy my prints through Society6 along with other products www.society6.com/alicejonesart

Creating cards from family and friends is an enjoyment of mine. I like to create something different or individual to the person. I thought what a great idea it would be to get my designs online on a print-on-demand service so that others can enjoy and buy my cards. I have created designs for cards, prints, home decor and even swimming towels!! Enjoying seeing how my designs can be used on different products. Please visit my pages, like and maybe buy something :). Thank you.

https://society6.com/alicejonesart  – I will be using this to sell a variety of different products from prints to home decor

Positivity

Ongoing and Reflection, Sketchbook

Positivity in your outlook of life can take you far. I like the idea of illustrating positive, meaningful and inspiring quotes to share and hope that they inspire others.

In my spare moments, over the last few months, I have created individual original watercolour on paper artworks. Nice to be working in colour again and having fun with art. They are all painted on A5 paper, individual sizes. The last one I created was the ‘Unlock your creativity’ piece. I decided to use darker shades of paint for the outline, instead of black. I intend to explore this more, I like the softness it creates. I will be looking into text design and illustrating text over the next couple months.

If you like my work, I can always created a customised quote to inspire you. Just let me know.

My purpose, direction and desire as an artist

Daily Inspiration, Ongoing and Reflection, Uncategorized

Recently I have not had the time to focus on my art practice. I now have an extra day in the week to focus on my art. I am now able to put more time into creating artwork whilst earning a regular income from something that I also love which is working with the community and helping others.

It is an important time for me to reflect on my practice. Why do I do it? Where is it going? And what do I want to achieve?

Putting ideas down on paper I worked out:

  • My purpose as an artist. The purpose of me creating artwork is to express myself and to use my imagination to be creative. As an artist I resolve and explore ideas or issues I need to work through. It is my passion and I get enjoyment from my artwork having a connection with the viewer.
  • My direction. I want to create positive artwork which influence and inspires myself and the viewer. I want it to be colourful, involving paint. Using my knowledge from uni, I want to develop a solid portfolio of work. I would like to use ideas and reflection of life in my artwork.
  • My desires as an artist. I desire to be happy with what I create, I would like it to be purposeful and meaningful. I want to use and share my creative talents. I would like to feel confident with my work and for it to sell.

It was a good exercise to do and I will reflect on it in the next coming months.

Recent focus and handmade wedding accessories

Daily Inspiration, Ongoing and Reflection

I have not written a post for a while; as I have had other focuses recently. Even though I might not be doing a creative activity task, artistic expression is apart of me and it does find a way of coming out! For example in my recent wedding,! Details below.

One recent focus has been… completing a course! I work as a Team Leader on a Social Support program for over 65 participants with memory loss. To freshen up my knowledge and to gain more skills, the organisation supported me to study a part time diploma course for Coordination of Community Services. It has taken me the past 16 months to complete and I should receive the certificate next week! The course was most useful, as it covered a broad overview of how community services should operate and what is required. Covering 14 units from; WHS, budgeting, implementing and the legal/ethical side.

The other focus has been… planning and getting married! Wow! It has been a busy year. My husband and I are from England and most of our family live there. It was important to have our family and friends with us for our special day so we planned it in Dorset, England. We visited last year, to decide the venue and to do all the formalities for our wedding. In the year lead up to our wedding, I thought up lots of little creative ideas for our wedding. Fun to do something a bit different and what we like. There wasn’t many weekends that went by that were not something to do with the wedding! It paid off though because we were able to be so relaxed on the day and the sun was out!! bonus!! Here are some of the things I made:

  • Fabric bouquets – I made my bouquet and bridesmaids bouquets in Australia over my Christmas break! I cut 300+ circles in different fabrics to create layered flowers. I burnt the edges to seal them and to create a natural look. I used a polystyrene ball and dowel rod for the base. Once the flowers were assembled I pinned them on. They traveled in our hold luggage and arrived perfectly fine in England.
  • Buttonholes – I wanted to match the handmade style of the bouquets with the buttonholes. I created 4 using the flower print from the bouquets for the best man and usher and created a special one for my husband. I made some flowers similar to the bouquet flowers for the mums, and my sister-in-laws. Very pleased with them.
  • Flower hair piece and veil detail – I wanted something created by me to be apart of what I was wearing. I had created a ribbon hair garland to go around my head, however once I tried it all together I thought it was too much so I changed the design so that the veil was attached to the hair piece. I used similar fabrics to my gold/ivory dress. I bought my veil second hand in Sydney. I loved the edging detail. As my dress has gold in it, I bought some gold beads to add to the veil.
  • ‘All you need is love’ fingerprint guest book – I had seen a few of these alternative ideas online. However the flower idea I came up with and painted myself. I wanted something for everyone to join in with that was creative. Everyone added their fingerprint and name (and some tiny feet!) I loved all the colour. We managed to get it to England and back in one piece and I have now sent off the canvas to be stretch framed. Cannot wait to see it!
  • Mr and Mrs – Again, I made this in Sydney, they were lightweight so they were fine to transport. I added a mini photo collage to the ‘R’s, the photos were of us both since we have been together.

Our photos were taken by Dawn Potter. She took lovely natural photos and she fitted right in on the day. www.dawnpotter.co.uk
